Playivity: a focused route to pilot
Reviewed the commercial objectives and refined the product specification for an EdTech wearable, and now leading the hands-on mechanical product design to deliver it.
The challenge
Playivity is developing a wearable for the EdTech market. Its founder brought deep research expertise and a clear product mission, and needed a practical route to a first commercial pilot.
The open question was how to balance ambition for the hardware against cost, complexity and certification demands, so the pilot could prove what mattered within a realistic budget.
The Playivity team wanted a partner who could act as an extension of the team: someone to shape the product plan, guide the product design decisions and keep the bigger picture in view.
The goal was a focused specification and roadmap for a first commercial pilot, and a design ready to build.
The result:a focused specification and development roadmap gave Playivity a clear, viable route towards commercial pilot.
The outcome so far
In progress: design development is under way.
I really enjoy working with Matt, he’s basically become my strategic third arm with Playivity! He’s organised, thorough and just gets what I’m trying to achieve, even when I’m throwing lots of different ideas at him. He’s been brilliant at helping me shape my product development mission towards product piloting, and practical next steps and milestones, while always keeping the bigger picture in mind. I really value having him as part of the journey.

How we got there
PPP worked as the team’s product strategy and product design lead, shaping the plan, guiding the product design decisions and now delivering the mechanical design.
Reviewing the commercial objectives and defining the product
Reviewed the commercial objectives with the Playivity team and refined the product specification, so the first version is built around what the pilot needs to prove.
Identifying the most appropriate route
Explored the available development routes, weighing cost, complexity and certification against what the pilot needs to prove, to identify the most appropriate approach for this stage. The result is a focused development roadmap for this stage.
Hands-on design and supplier liaison
Design development is now under way, covering concept development, supplier liaison and prototype development on the way to the pilot.
